SHILLONG: Inspector Vincent Lanong and Head Constable Bishu Karmakar of North Eastern Police Academy (NEPA) have been awarded prestigious police medals for meritorious service by the President on the occasion of Republic Day.
Lanong, who is from Nongrimmaw, joined NEPA as Sub-Inspector in 1983. Since then he performed his duties in various sections of the Academy. Taking note of his excellent riding skill and confidence, Lanong has been engaged in the Riding Section of the Academy.
For his devotion, sincerity and dedication towards his duties, he has earned the Director’s Commendation Disc and Certificate on the occasion of Republic Day, 2015.
Bishu Karmakar from Assam joined NEPA as Constable (MT) in 1988. Since then he has been engaged in driving various types of government vehicles of the Academy. He has a good knowledge about maintenance of vehicles.
Taking note of his excellent driving skill and confidence, Karmakar was engaged in driving all types of light, medium and heavy vehicles in the Academy. His services were also used for motor driving training for the basic course trainees in the rank of Sub-Inspector to Deputy Superintendent of Police, in addition to his regular duties as driver.
He was promoted to the Head Constable (MT) rank in 2012.
Awards for home guards
The President has approved the award of Home Guards and Civil Defence medal for meritorious service on the occasion of Republic day for two personnel of Home Guards and Civil Defence — Havildar Detrick Diengdoh of Meghalaya Secretariat Home Guards in Shillong and Havildar Hendro Shabong of Meghalaya Secretariat Home Guards.
