SHILLONG: Secretary to the Governor, H.M Shangpliang, on Friday terminated the services of two public relation officers and a private secretary who were appointed at Raj Bhavan during the tenure of V. Shanmuganathan as the Governor.
Shangpliang also convened a meeting with the Raj Bhavan staff to clear the air on the controversies surrounding Raj Bhavan as his name has also figured.
An official source said the services of public relations officers, Chinmoyee Deka from Jorhat, Assam and Emdorini Thangkhiew and private secretary Saurav Pandey from Lucknow were terminated as their services were co-terminus with the Governor’s appointment.
During the meeting, Shangpliang in the presence of deputy secretary to the Governor gave certain clarifications to the employees after he was accused of turning a deaf ear to the grievances of the employees.
The complaint of 100 employees sent to Prime Minister Narendra Modi regarding Shanmuganathan had also mentioned about the alleged laxity of the Secretary to the Governor (Shangpliang) though his name was not mentioned in the letter.
Sources said Shangpliang called a meeting of all the staff at the Durbar Hall on Friday and stressed on the need to leave behind what had happened and urged all of them to work together.
When contacted, Shangpliang said there was no complacency on his part and rubbished rumours about a political angle to the whole episode.
Harassment to lady staff
It was learnt that the Governor once passed some adverse remarks on two lower division staff following which the women employees approached Shangpliang on the matter and he in turn took up the matter with the Under Secretary.
The ladies were asked if they would give their complaints in writing, but they only said they would see if it can be done.
The women were also told to give complaints in writing if they faced any problem and even directed to go in a group of two if the Governor had called them for any work.
