NONGPOH: The Ri Bhoi Youth Federation (RBYF) has decided to take up four issues — the contentious railway project, entry and exit points, Umroi Airport and encroachment o border areas — afresh and put pressure on the Government to act on them.
The organisation’s president, Bipul Thangkhiew, while talking to the media after the general body meeting on Saturday, said though RBYF believes the railway project would lead to development of the people here, it would oppose it for now there is no restriction on illegal influx that is threatening the tribals here.
RBYF will ask the government to fast track work on entry and exit points and start the project from Ri Bhoi. It will also ask for implementation of the Meghalaya Residents Safety and Security Act, 2016, Benami Act, 2016.
Thangkhiew said RBYF has also resolved to take a serious step on the expansion of Umroi Airport, which has been stalled. The organisation will also flag the plight of indigenous people living along the border.
