High Command wants media to send news clippings on HDR

SHILLONG: The All India Congress Committee (AICC) is silent on the issue of the agony of a minor girl who was raped several times in the guest house run by the family of the Home Minister, HDR Lyngdoh, even as the party spokesperson wanted the media to send news clipping on the matter.
When contacted over phone on Monday, spokesperson of the Indian National Congress Tom Vadakkan said the party has no information about such case being reported in the State.
“When such information reaches, we will take action accordingly,” he said.
However, Vadakkan was prompt in demanding action against Meghalaya Governor V. Shanmuganathan after the molestation scandal in Raj Bhavan and other anomalies that surfaced. The Raj Bhavan staff had written to the Prime Minister that ultimately resulted in the resignation of Shanmuganathan.
Interestingly, the Congress spokesperson wanted The Shillong Times journalist to send the hard copies of the clippings of all the news items regarding HDR Lyngdoh, which have been reported, along with the accreditation details of the journalist.
Earlier on Saturday, Chief Minister Mukul Sangma reiterated that there was no question of dropping the Home Minister from the Cabinet while Lyngdoh said he was not aware of what was happening at Marvelene’s guest house at Rilbong run by his family.
Earlier, following the resignation of Shanmuganathan, BJP National spokesperson and in charge Meghalaya Nalin Kohli said the Mukul Sangma-led Government should be sacked for shielding the Home Minister in whose guest house the 14-year-old girl was repeatedly raped.
Though TUR and CSWO filed an FIR against the family of the Home Minister at Laban police station, the police are yet to question them.
Scrap dealer arrested
Meanwhile, Police on Monday arrested another person in connection with the rape of the 14-year-old girl.
Police arrested one Md. Sahib Ali, who was the manager of the scrap shop run by the step father of another accused trafficker Mamoni Parveen in connection with the POCSO Act case under Madanrting Police station. Ali had raped the victim inside the scrap shop at Madanrting.
With this arrest, the number of persons arrested in connection with the sex racket case has gone up to seventeen.
