Kohima: In the aftermath of stiff opposition to holding of elections to the urban local bodies with 33 per cent reservation for women by tribal Hohos in Nagaland, the Nagaland Cabinet on Saturday decided to take the matter to New Delhi to demand that Nagaland be exempted from the purview of Part IX of the Constitution of India.
In a press communique the media cell of CMO said taking serious consideration of the widespread
concern expressed by various tribal Hohos and other organizations with regard to certain provisions of Part IX-A of the Constitution relating to Municipalities, the State Cabinet, in an emergency Cabinet meeting on Saturday night attended by special invitees comprising of legislators from all tribes of the State, decided to submit a memorandum to the Prime Minister to amend the Constitution through an ordinance.
All the 60 legislators of the State, both the Members of Parliament, the Chairman and Vice Chairman of the Democratic Alliance of Nagaland are to submit the memorandum jointly and an early appointment with the Prime Minister has been sought, the communique said. (UNI)
