10 UTPs face arrest for attacking warden

SHILLONG: The city police are awaiting the court’s go-ahead to arrest the 10 inmates of Shillong District Jail who assaulted a warden recently.
The inmates who attacked the warden have been identified as Trinly Nongbri, Rahul Chattri alias Martul, Saijuddin Ali, Pappu Swer, Barson Nongbri, Wankailang Wanchan, Md Feroz Khan, M. Chanabar Hussain, Sayed Ali and Iaiehskhem Wanniang.
According to sources, the incident happened last Saturday morning when one of the     wardens under the influence of alcohol detained a group of under-trial prisoners for breaking a tube light and later went home after his duty.
However, the inmates attacked another warden, Chinmoy Hajong, when he came to the jail for duty in his shift.
The warden sustained injuries and was removed to a hospital. Hajong has filed an FIR in this connection.
