U-18 I-League: RWFC beat Gauhati Town Club
SHILLONG: Royal Wahingdoh FC ended their U-18 I-League Shillong-Guwahati zone campaign in style beating Gauhati Town Club 3-0 in an away match on Tuesday. The win took the table toppers to 22 points of 8 matches, way ahead of second-placed Shillong Lajong who are at 15 points. The Royals had already qualified for the final round and Tuesday’s encounter was a mere formality but that did not stop the visitors from giving it their all against third-placed GTC. Seiminmang Manchong opened the scoring for RWFC with his 34th minute shot at the back of the net. After dominating the proceedings all along Remos Kerlang Suting doubled the lead in the 83rd minute while Sirandeep Moran scored in the stoppage time to complete the 3-0 comprehensive victory.
AG Meghalaya loses to AG Telengana in semis
SHILLONG: The semi finals of the Indian Audit and Accounts Department Inter Zonal Football Tournament was played between A.G. Bengal vs A.G. Punjab and A.G. Telengana vs A.G. Meghalaya at the J.N.Complex, Polo, Shillong on Tuesday. In the first semi final A.G Punjab beat last year Inter Zonal champion A.G.Bengal by a margin of 5 goals to 2 via kick from the spot. It was A.G.Bengal who drew first blood in the 55th minute of play through Pradip Mohanraj. Four minutes later, Sehij Pal Singh restored parity for A.G.Punjab. During kick from the spot, A.G Punjab scored all four goals through Sehij Pal Singh, Aman Deep Singh, Randeep Singh and Saurav Rautela whereas the lone scorer from Bengal is Pradeep Mohanraj. In an evenly fought second semi final, A.G. Telengana beat host A.G. Meghalaya by a margin of 7 goals to 6 also via kick from the spot. Telengana took the lead through P.D. Joshua in the eleventh minute of the match. In the 22nd minute of the match the home team midfielder Ronnie M. Nongbri played a one-two with Kitbok Pale before placing the ball towards the left of the on rushing goalkeeper. Ten minutes later, A.G. Meghalaya scored another goal. Whereas, A.G. Telengana during kick from the spot, emerged victorious by scoring 5 goals compared to A.G.Meghalaya 4. Today’s match: A.G.Punjab Vs A.G.Telengana at 1 pm.
U-12 Open football tourney
NONGSTOIN: The office of the District Sports Officer, West Khasi Hills, Nongstoin will conduct a Block and District Level Under-12 Chief Minister Open Football Tournament (Boys & Girls) for West Khasi Hills District commencing from March onwards at the different Block centers of the district. Entry forms will be available at the office of the respective Block Development Officer during office hours except for Nongstoin where the same is available in the office of the District Sports Officer. Entries should be submitted to the office of the concern Block Development Officer during office hours, except for Nongstoin the same may be submitted at the office of the undersigned during office hours.
Punjab Warriors pip Delhi Waveriders 3-2 in HIL
New Delhi: Defending champions Jaypee Punjab Warriors edged past Delhi Waveriders 3-2 to jump to the fourth spot in the Coal India Hockey India League (HIL) at the Shivaji Stadium here on Tuesday. Mink van der Weerden’s successful penalty corner conversion in the 53rd minute turned out to be the winner after Delhi’s Tristian White’s 39th-minute field goal cancelled out Robert van der Horst’s 15th-minute strike. With this win, Punjab took their points tally to 11 points and leapfrogged Uttar Pradesh Wizards, who have eight points from three matches, while Delhi, with five points from four matches, remained in the sixth and final spot. Dabang Mumbai are on top of the table with 23 points from seven matches, while Kalinga Lancers are second with 20 points from seven matches. Third-placed Ranchi Rays have 17 points from seven games.
