Top leader of NSCA surrenders

Tezpur: National Socialist Council of Adivasis (NSCA) self-styled ‘commander-in-chief’ Jharu Lohar alias Horen Karmakar, accused in murder cases of tea labourer association leader and others, on Tuesday surrendered before police in Sonitpur district with arms and ammunition.
Additional SP Numal Mahanta said the hardcore militant deposited one 9mm pistol, two magazines and large number of ammunition. Lohar was accused in the murder case of ‘Assam Chah Mazdur Sangh (ACMS)’ Secretary Niranjan Patra at Koliabor, killing of the accountant of Singlijan Tea estate in Dibrugarh, killings at Khatkhati in Karbi Anglong district, besides kidnapping cases in past years, Mahanta said. Police had earlier launched a manhunt for him. (PTI)
