SHILLONG: The State Government is firing on all cylinders to inaugurate more development blocks as promised during last year’s budget.
Chief Minister Mukul Sangma told reporters that the Government is looking at appropriate dates to inaugurate the C&RD blocks, four civil sub-divisions and 18 police stations.
During the budget session last year, Sangma had announced the creation of four new community and rural development blocks, which included Mawlai in East Khasi Hills, Bhoirymbong in Ri Bhoi, Dendema in West Garo Hills and Damalgre in South West Garo Hills.
The government then took on another ambitious venture by declaring the creation of two additional development blocks – Bajengdoba in North Garo Hills and Sohiong in East Khasi Hills.
Sangma recently inaugurated Bhoirymbong and Sohiong C&RD blocks and laid the foundation for Damalgre development block.
“We (in the government) are working with the High Court in completing the process of separating judiciary, so inauguration of new temporary courts and district judicial complexes are in the pipeline,” he added.
The Chief Minister said the government is inaugurating development blocks one after the other as time is short.
“We are hard-pressed with time but we are working on the time table. One week or 10-day notice will be given before we inaugurate (a block),” Sangma said.
