SHILLONG: The Pynursla Civil Sub Division will be inaugurated by Chief Minister Mukul Sangma on Wednesday (February 15) in the presence of the local legislator and Cabinet Minister, Prestone Tynsong.
Tynsong called a news conference on Friday to announce the inauguration of the Civil Sub Division and said this was the long-cherished dream of the people of Ri-War areas for the last 30 years.
The Civil Sub Division will start functioning immediately after the laying of the foundation stone on Wednesday.
The jurisdiction of the Civil Sub Division will exclude eight villages under Gram Sevak circle of Shella-Bholaganj. To a query, Tynsong said the people of the eight villages had petitioned him not to include them under Pynursla Civil Sub division though administratively, it was convenient for the villagers to be part of Pynursla that has a population of over a lakh consisting of around 125 villages.
Tynsong, however, said if there is a demand from the eight villages, he will be open to include them under Pynursla.
The expenditure involved in the creation of Civil Sub Division will be around Rs 2 crore.
Answering a question, Tynsong said there was nothing political in announcing the formation of the Civil Sub Division ahead of the 2018 Assembly polls.
“I leave it to the wisdom of the people and the inauguration of Civil Sub Division does not mean that it is intended for winning the election,” he added.
