United XI beat Sumer CC in Super Division match

SHILLONG: United XI defeated Sumer CC by 61 runs in the Shillong Cricket League Super Division match played at cricket ground Polo on Monday. Electing to bat first, United XI scored 187 runs losing nine wickets in 40 overs, where Jason Lamare scored 33 runs off 38 balls and Bablu Passah scored 25 runs off 44 balls. Sumer’s Suraj Chettri took four wickets while Hiraj rabha took three wickets. In reply, Sumer CC were bundled out for 126 runs in 32.3 overs. Kenny Wann scored 60 runs off 87 balls and Jewell Lyngdoh scored 14 runs off 30 balls. For United, Andrew Thabah picked up four wickets and Jason Lamare took one wicket.

 

DSO WJH to conduct U-12 CM open football tourney

SHILLONG: The DSO West Jaintia Hills in collaboration with the Sports Association of WJDSA, Thadlaskein, Amlarem and Laskein will be conducting the U- 12 Chief Minister Open Football Tournament for both Boys and Girls from March 1. The teams are to submit the entry form before February 22 to their respective Zone or Office of the District Sports Officer, Jowai. In Amlarem the screening will be held on February 23 at Amlarem Stadium while in Laskein the screening will be held on February 25 at Laskein Stadium. In Thadlaskein the screening will be held on February 25 at Wahiajer Playground and in Jowai (WJDSA) the screening will be held on February 28 at Kiang Nangbah Stadium. Interested participants may contact their respective zones or sports associations for more details.

Derby ends on a tragic note for Mohun Bagan fan

KOLKATA: A 21-year-old Mohun Bagan supporter met with a tragic end while returning from the I-League football derby match in Siliguri where he died of an accident at Baranagar Road Railway Station on Monday. Soumya Mukherjee of 41, D D Mondal Ghat Road, Dakshineswar met with an accident while disembarking from the train on his return from Siliguri after watching Sunday’s derby, Mohun Bagan stated in a release. He was rushed to R G Kar Medical College and Hospital at 8.30am under critical condition and he succumbed to his injuries around 11.15am. The club management and members deeply mourn his death and extend their heartfelt condolences to the grieving family, Mohun Bagan said. Mohun Bagan and East Bengal played out a goalless draw in the I-League derby. (PTI)
