MAWKYRWAT: Former Deputy Chief Minister and local MLA Rowell Lyngdoh will contest the 2018 Assembly elections from Mawkyrwat constituency as a Congress candidate.
This was decided during a meeting of the Mawkyrwat Block Congress Committee on Tuesday. All office bearers from the 45 primary units under the block Congress were present at the meeting.
Mawkyrwat Congress general secretary Sandor Ramsiej said supporters wanted the sitting MLA to contest in the next elections.
“All the office bearers and supporters are happy after Lyngdoh agreed to contest again from Mawkyrwat constituency and they also said, ‘we will win the election as long as he (Rowell) contests’,” Ramsiej said.
Speaking on condition of anonymity, one Congress leader from Mawkyrwat said in the last two to three months, many Congress supporters from Mawkyrwat constituency were confused because of the rumours that the Congress ticket for Mawkyrwat will go to the former CEM of the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council and present MDC of Ranikor constituency, Manstudy Nongrem.
Meanwhile, Ramsiej said the Mawkyrwat Block Congress on Tuesday elected office bearers. Lyngdoh was elected as President, Diverland Lyngdoh, Valentine Thyrniang and Phrinly Wanniang as Vice Presidents, Sandor Ramsiej, Carnes Sohshang and Nicholas Tympuin as General Secretaries, Remdor Shylla, Habamut Pakyntein, Helding Shangdiar and Kynpham Kharlyngdoh as Secretaries and Skhindro Marwein as Treasurer.
