SHILLONG: Former Deputy Speaker and South Shillong legislator Sanbor Shullai has threatened to file a PIL against the PHE Department and the Shillong Municipal Board if both agencies fail to address the problem of water scarcity within two days.
Based on the news report in The Shillong Times on water woes in Laban and other areas, Shullai submitted a letter to the Chief Engineer of the PHED and the CEO of the Municipal Board on Wednesday and said till date there is no improvement in water supply by the Department as a result of which general public are facing great difficulties in spite of the fact that all residents pay water tax to the Department.
The NCP legislator informed that the decision to file a PIL on water problem was unanimously taken at a public meeting recently.
The absence of coordination between the PHED and the Municipal Board and the shifting of responsibility have been cited as the main reasons for the delayed action to rectify the problem in several localities in the city.Besides Laban, the affected localities include Mawkhar, Riatsamthiah and Laitumkhrah.
