SHILLONG: The much awaited inquiry report of the Rs 2-crore scam in the KHADC will be placed during the Council session scheduled for February 20, 21 and 22.
The chief executive member of the Council, P.N Syiem, said the report would be put up in the public domain after it was tabled during the KHADC session.
“Since the inquiry was constituted by the House during the District Council session, we felt it is appropriate to place the report in the House,” he said.
Meanwhile, commenting on the nine-point queries raised by UDP, a PDF coalition partner, Syiem said the replies would be sent to the UDP members “either this (Thursday) evening or tomorrow (Friday) morning”.
Later, Syiem sent a letter to the chairman of the UDP, Parliamentary Party, on Thursday evening in which he stated that eight of the nine queries were discussed at the KHADC executive meeting on Thursday. Query No.7 relating to the inquiry report on the Rs 2-crore scam was not discussed.
The meeting resolved that the UDP MDC would in turn clarify to its party on the nine-point queries.
‘New party should not
be discreet’
Meanwhile, H.S Shylla recalled that UDP has constituted a sub-committee on KHADC affairs with Lanong as chairman, Jemino Mawthoh as secretary and others.
“We MDCs have to take the policy decision of the party whether scams will continue or not and hence the party took the stand to write to the CEM for clarification,” he said.
Referring to the murky state of affairs of the KHADC, he pointed to the conference hall which he alleged costs over Rs 45 lakh, terming it as ‘daylight robbery’.
Clarifying on UDP’s stand that it had also sought a clarification on Syiem’s move to form a regional party, he said, “The People’s Democratic Forum cannot be turned into People’s Democratic Front. UDP cannot be a partner there.”
Regarding the formation of the regional party, Shylla pointed out that in the past the APHLC was dissolved to make way for HPU.
“Again HPU was dissolved in turn uniting the HSPDP, but ultimately UDP was formed,” he added.
Shylla said though he was not against the creation of new political parties “but it should not be done discreetly”.
Asserting that there is a need to be clear with regard to the anomalies prevailing in the KHADC, he said, “The reply given by the CEM will be discussed tomorrow (Friday) at the meeting.”
