NONGPOH: The Chairman of the Parliamentary Affairs Committee, Paul Lyngdoh, on Thursday launched the solar lighting scheme at Pahamsyiem village in Ri Bhoi district.
The project was sanctioned at a cost of Rs 1.35 crore by local MDC Rona Khymdeit under the MDC Scheme.
As many as 750 solar street lights will be distributed to various villages of Nongpoh Constituency.
Lyngdoh lauded the initiative which, he said, would benefit several villages in Nongpoh.
Paul  Lyngdoh added that for so many years, the constituency was in the dark “due to lack of visionary representatives”.
Local MDC Rona Khymdeit said as a public representative, it was her duty to bring forth a change in the constituency for the benefit of the people while adding that despite fund constraints, this is just a humble initiative.
