JOWAI: The headman of Jalyiah village in East Jaintia Hills has strongly refuted the claims of the district police that the prime suspect in the case of rape and murder of a 40-year-old woman from the village was arrested through sheer diligence exercised by them.
“It is a fact that we worked hard to nab the accused, Jaitre Phawa, from his residence at Jalyiah village”, the headman said.
“But we are shocked to hear that our hard work was not highlighted and all credit was claimed by the East Jaintia Hills District Executive Force”, the headman alleged.
The Dorbar Shnong of Jalyiah village further claimed that members of the village defence party had toiled to nab the suspect.
The Dorbar also asserted that the accused was apprehended from Gate Laban at 8.30 pm and not from his residence as claimed by the police.
“If the Police Department and others concerned continue to ignore our efforts, we will stop coordinating with them”, said a statement from the Dorbar Shnong.
