SHILLONG: During every session for the last four years, the Opposition has been raising the need on the part of the Congress led MUA-II Government to make public the judicial inquiry report into the 2009-10 GHADC scam.
The Opposition NPP now hopes that the government will table the report in the upcoming Budget session of the Assembly commencing from March 3.
The scam relates to financial irregularities in 2009-10 that occurred during the tenure of the then GHADC CEM, P.K Sangma, who was with the NCP.
The scam came to the fore after the then Deputy Commissioner of West Garo Hills, Sanjay Goyal, conducted an audit and found out financial irregularities and illegal appointments in the Council in 2009-10.
Later on October 19, 2010, the State Government notified the inquiry commission headed by Justice (retd) P.G Agarwal. The probe report was submitted to the Government on December 29, 2012.
NPP legislator James Sangma said on Saturday that he was tired of demanding that the government make the report public. “I have been raising the issue for long. The government has not been listening. However, we want the government to table the report in the upcoming Budget session,” Sangma said.
Earlier, on several occasions, the government had stated that the report was pending with various government departments for response. The Commission of Inquiry had cost the State exchequer over Rs 22 lakh.
The Commission was entrusted to probe the facts and circumstances leading to the financial instability in GHADC and also to examine financial irregularities and misappropriation of funds committed by the Council.
