TURA: The seven quarry workers who were kidnapped on February 14 by suspected ASAK rebels were released early on Sunday morning.
The six lorry drivers and a mechanic – Shyama Rabha, Manoj Das, Dipak Baiswa, Khitish Rabha, Amulya Kalita, Dinobandhu Roy and Kameshwar Pandit – were sleeping at the quarry site at Sangkini Dapgre village in Chokpot when they were kidnapped.
The prime suspect was the ASAK group led by Reding T. Sangma.
The men were released at Kama Adugre near Sangkinigre late on Saturday night from where they walked on foot to reach the main road early on Sunday morning.
After release, none of them went to the police. Instead, they went to their respective homes from where they informed their superiors of their release.
No mention has been made about payment of ransom to the ASAK group though police are not ruling it out.
