SHILLONG: The UDP high command has turned down H.S Shylla’s proposal to move a no-confidence motion during the KHADC session.
The UDP MDC, however, said the motion was not to topple the executive committee of the People’s Democratic Forum (PDF) coalition but to highlight the nine queries of the party.
Speaking to The Shillong Times, Shylla said, “I have asked permission from the party to move a no-confidence motion during the Council session not with the intention to topple the executive committee.”
“The objective to move an NC is to get an opportunity to discuss numerous issues in the House but the party has not taken the decision to withdraw from the PDF coalition so it did not allow me to move the NC,” he added.
Advocating the need to move a no-confidence is to highlight the nine-point query, Shylla said he is upset over the developments, stating that “it is a huge loss” as discussions pertaining to the queries will not be discussed in the House session.
He, however, maintained that the NC is not to topple but to make way for the discussion of the nine-point query.
“Considering the seriousness of the allegations, it would have been appropriate to move an NC to get clarification but the party did not allow,” Shylla said.
Meanwhile, opposition Congress member P.T Sawkmie said the KHADC scam of Rs 2 crore is “top priority” for discussion during the session.
“Other issues that will be raised are the pending cases in the Supreme Court and the High Court,” he added.
It may be mentioned that the UDP had expressed dissatisfaction over the clarification given by KHADC CEM PN Syiem on the nine-point query posed by the party related to various scams in the district council.
While demanding a detailed response on the matter from the KHADC CEM, the UDP had said it would raise the issue in the Budget session of the Council starting Monday besides apprising the District Council Affairs Minister Prestone Tynsong of the matter.
