TURA: Three NGOs from Tura have submitted a complaint to the West Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner against the newly appointed senior auditor of Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan questioning the man’s capabilities and “corrupt background”.
The NGOs – ADE, FKJGP and AYWO – have opposed the appointment of Nishit Ghose as the official “was recently terminated from the post of accountant for non-cooperation and irresponsibility to solve account issues, which at the time was pending”.
The organisations also submitted the termination letter from the DM&HO to the Deputy Commissioner.
According to the NGOs, an FIR in this regard was also filed by the department concerned at Mahendraganj police station and they have strongly opposed the appointment as the case is currently pending in court.
Subsequently, Ghose was arrested and he was released on bail recently. It was during this time that he was appointed to the post by the District Mission Coordinator.
Teacher’s appointment
The NGOs working in Tikrikilla have come together to oppose the appointment of a non-tribal assistant teacher at Tikrikilla Girls’ UP School by the managing committee. The NGOs said if there was a “highly qualified candidate from among the tribals”, then there was no logic in appointing a candidate from schedule caste category.
