SHILLONG: UDP’s H.S Shylla is set to move a no-confidence motion on Wednesday against the executive committee of the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) led by P.N Syiem.
In a letter to the secretary of the legislative wing of the KHADC on Tuesday, Shylla said, “This House does not have confidence in the executive committee under the leadership of P.N Syiem.”
UDP, which is a member in the ruling People’s Democratic Front (PDF) coalition headed by Syiem, had turned down Shylla’s proposal to move a no-confidence motion in the House. But the UDP MDC had said the NC was not aimed at toppling the executive committee.
The Parliamentary Party of the UDP has already made it clear that the five party MDCs will not support the no-confidence motion to be moved by Shylla, which according to them is an initiative taken at his own individual level.
Meanwhile, the Council session on Wednesday will resolve to scrap the MoU signed on January 12, 2006, between UCIL and KHADC and also the no objection certificate issued on February 14, 2007, for extraction of uranium ore at Kylleng-Pdengsohiong-Mawthabah.
The executive committee will start an independent inquiry into all aspects of the Wahkaji-Mawthabah road project funded by UCIL.
