MAWKYRWAT: The deputy commissioner and chairman of the regional transport authority in South West Khasi Hills has notified that transport fare for persons with disabilities should be half of the normal fare and any violation of the order will invite punishment.
DC Ripnar Lyngdoh said to claim the 50% concession the persons with disabilities have to produce identity cards or certificates issued by a valid authority.
The decision as per the direction of the Supreme Court was taken during a recent meeting.
The Association of Persons with Disabilities (APD) in South West Khasi Hills welcomed the decision.
“We have raised the issue with the District Transport Officer in 2016 and now it has been implemented,” president of the association Shemphang K. Syiemlieh said, adding, “We want to thank the DC not only for implementing the concession rate but also for implementing the 3% job reservation for PWDs in the district.”
