CLP, MUA-II meetings discuss housing & MLA schemes

SHILLONG: The meetings of the Congress Legislature Party and the Meghalaya United Alliance-II held at the residence of Chief Minister Mukul Sangma on Wednesday decided to ensure unity in the party and better delivery system by the government.
The meetings assume significance due to the upcoming Budget Session scheduled from March 3 as unity in the party and coherence in the government are required to take on the Opposition.
The Opposition has no plan to bring any no-confidence motion against the government unlike the past, but the MUA-II coalition wants to make sure that the Government Bills are passed smoothly.
A legislator who attended the meetings said that MLA schemes and the plan of the government to launch a housing scheme for the poor were among the issues discussed.
The meeting also felt that legislators should complete the schemes allotted to them in time.
Party sources said that the chief minister explained various initiatives of the government for the development of the State during the meeting.
The Congress is aiming at securing maximum seats in the Assembly polls in the early part of next year.
As many members were out of station, another meeting has been scheduled for March 1.
