SHILLONG: The State government has failed to deliver on two projects worth lakhs of rupees prompting the aggrieved residents to seek early intervention of the authorities to address the situation.
The Baghmara Citizen’s Forum (BCF) based in South Garo Hills in a letter addressed to Chief Secretary KS Kropha said that Rs 67 lakh was sanctioned during 2014-15 for construction of a ‘knowledge centre building’ at Bolsalgre under Baghmara Municipal Board from BRGF Scheme.
However, the construction work was abandoned since the last two years for reasons best known to the concerned departments and district officials, secretary of BCF Johoral Ch. Sangma said in the letter.
“South Garo Hills is the least developed district in the State and has been superseded by the newly created districts in terms of infrastructure development. Hence, we seek your assistance to take necessary steps for completing the abandoned project,” the letter said.
In a separate grievance, the people of East Jaintia Hills have urged Chief Minister Mukul Sangma to fulfill his promise of provincialising the existing college in the district.
The Chief Minister had inaugurated four new districts, two in Khasi & Jaintia Hills and two in Garo Hills respectively in the year 2012.
“East Jaintia Hills was unveiled on July 31, 2012. In his speech, the Chief Minister spoke of various developments. One of them was his declaration to provincialise the existing college in the district. At a time when the 2018 election is knocking on the door, the promise is yet to be fulfilled,” concerned residents said in a statement.
