Law Commission chairman assures help to retired soldiers

SHILLONG: The chairman of the State Law Commission, A.H Scott Lyngdoh, said on Saturday he was aware of the sacrifices made by ex-servicemen and the Directorate of Sainik Welfare “is ensuring resettlement” into security related jobs in various sectors for retired soldiers.
Speaking at the Annual Meghalaya State Ex-servicemen rally was held at Don Bosco Technical School Hall, Laitumkhrah, Lyngdoh said, “About 60,000 soldiers retire every year.”
“These men are disciplined, trained and experienced human resource and they could suitably be utilised by the State Government in various fields.”
He also assured the Ex-servicemen of the Government’s commitment to all proposals put forward by the Directorate of Sainik Welfare, especially regarding the construction of a Sainik Rest House at Shillong and Tura as well as establishment of a Zila Sainik Board Office at Tura.
“I am aware of the Government’s commitment to raise a Home & Hearth Territorial Army Battalion, a Sainik School, as well as the Ecological Battalion.” Lyngdoh added.
As many as 800 ex-servicemen, widows and dependants including sixty retired officers from all over the State attended the rally. Several officers of the three services as well as senior officers of the State Government attended the function.
