SHILLONG: The police are still awaiting the forensic report of the mobile phone of the 16-year-old Umlyngka girl who was murdered last year and whose body was found from Damsite. The phone was recovered from a pond near Umtong and was sent to Hyderabad for forensic test more than five months ago.
East Khasi Hills SP M Kharkrang said though the Hyderabad-based Central Forensic Science Laboratory receives thousands of cases from different parts of the country, the State Police has requested the laboratory to accord priority to the case. “We had sent the samples soon after the incident,” he said while underlining the importance of having a Forensic Science Laboratory in the State.
Police are hoping that the FSL report would shed light on several key things related to the investigation.
The girl went missing from her house at Umlyngka on July 24 and later her body was recovered from Damsite, Umiam, on July 29.
The family had earlier claimed that she came out of the house after receiving a phone call.
A few days after the incident, the victim’s slippers were found near Umtong waterfalls, not far from Umlyngka.
The victim’s mobile phone was recovered by a 19-year-old boy from Umtong a few weeks later adding a new twist to the case.
