SHILLONG: Meghalaya’s famed Living Root bridges has been nominated for the Presidential award.
The bio engineering innovation will be a part of the National Science Day celebration and a regional innovators conclave will also be organised at the State Central Library which will serve as a platform for grassroot innovation on Tuesday.
OSD for the State Council of Science, Technology and Environment (SCSTE), A. Suting, at a press conference said, “This year is the year of innovation. We need innovators for the development of the state.”
Speaking about ‘living root bridges’ as a unique bio-engineering innovation, Wankitkupar Swer of Meghalaya Basin Development Authority said that the National Innovation Foundation has come over to scout for innovative techniques in the State and nominated Living Root bridges for the Presidential award.
“A person will be selected to represent the communities of Meghalaya in Delhi as the award is for all the communities,” Swer said. He further added that it is the concept idea behind the living root- bridges which will be recognised.
