Body of suspected murder victim identified

JOWAI: The body of a young woman which was recovered from near NH-44 in Dkhiah East in East Jaintia Hills has been identified.
The body was identified after relatives of the victim came across the WhatsApp images forwarded by the East Jaintia Hills Superintendent of Police to his counterpart in Ri Bhoi District.
According to East Jaintia Hills district police chief S. Thamar the family will reach Khliehriat on Wednesday for proper identification of the body.
Ri Bhoi SP G.D Kharwanlang on Tuesday revealed that the body was that of Binora Dohtdong of Umsning Lum-Pyllun. She was the daughter of Emer Kharthangmaw.
Sources informed that the victim belonged to a poor family and the family would need financial assistance to transport the body from Khliehriat to Umsning.
The body was spotted by some passers-by on the morning of February 23. There was an injury mark on the right side of the girl’s forehead.
Police suspect that the girl was either pushed out of a vehicle or that she had jumped out. Any indication of sexual assault is yet to be confirmed.
