Will withdraw support to PDF if misappropriation not probed properly, warns Lanong

SHILLONG: The UDP has asked KHADC CEM PN Syiem to clarify his stand on the formation of a new regional party. The party has also urged Syiem to come clear on whether the People’s Democratic Forum coalition of the KHADC will turn into People’s Democratic Front or the new regional party.
Talking about the possible formation of the People’s Democratic Front at Mawkyrwat, UDP general secretary Jemino Mawthoh said, “We want clarification on whether a new political party will be launched as the UDP, which is a coalition partner in the People’s Democratic Forum at the KHADC, has the right to know the truth.”
“If the People’s Democratic Forum coalition formally announces a new party, we will have to take our next step accordingly,” Mawthoh added.
Mawthoh, however, said that no decision can be taken in haste with regard to withdrawing support to the People’s Democratic Forum coalition.
“Till now we have got clarifications only in one or two lines which shows that the CEM does not care about the party and its intentions,” he said.
Mawthoh maintained that there were no differences within the UDP but only varied opinions and expressed dismay over the personal attacks made on UDP MDC HS Shylla.
Mawthoh said that though the no-confidence motion was withdrawn, moving it “was a victory for the UDP as the House Committee was constituted later.”
UDP working president Bindo Lanong asserted that the party will not blink an eye before withdrawing support to the KHADC coalition if the misappropriation of fund row is not solved in the inquiry by the House Committee.
The sub-committee on KHADC affairs formed by the party leaders has resolved to write to the Governor of Assam and Meghalaya, Banwarilal Purohit to express their dissatisfaction over the clarifications provided by KHADC CEM PN Syiem over the 9-point query.
Lanong, who is the chairman of the sub-committee, lashed out at Syiem’s allegations that there was a surreptitious link between the UDP and the Congress and said, “We have decided to write to the Governor pertaining to the 9-point query.”  He added that Syiem has backtracked from his statement that clear replies will be given to the UDP. “Syiem is beating around the bush,” Lanong said adding that the UDP will write to the Governor this week.
