SHILLONG: The Dorbar Shnong Mawlai Mawtawar has decided to donate three acres of land to the state government to construct the office for the Mawlai C&RD Block at Mawtawar.
In a letter submitted to the Director, Community & Rural Development (C&RD) department, I R Sangma, the traditional heads of Mawlai Mawtawar said that the land is located at a place which is accessible to the villages under the jurisdiction of the proposed Mawlai block.
A delegation comprising members of Mawlai Town Dorbar, local MLA E Syiemlieh, HYC and FKJGP Mawlai circle, called on the director in this regard.
Speaking to reporters after the meeting, Syiemlieh said, “The director has assured us that on March 3, officers from the department will inspect the site at Mawtawar and a report will be submitted to the state government.”
On the other hand, five villages under the umbrella body of Synjuk Ki San Durbar Shnong Mawlai Constituency (SSDSMC), have stated that they were ready to provide land for the block office at Mawsiatkhnam.
Stating that the SSDSMC is not opposed to any location suitable for setting up the Block office as long as it is within Mawlai area, SSDSMC chairman J. Majaw, said that the search for setting up a better location of the Block office has caused a split among Mawlai residents.
“We are happy that adequate land has been offered at Mawtawar for setting up of the Block office,” he said.
