SHILLONG: There was no mention of the government’s initiatives to control crime against women and children in the Governor’s address on Friday.
There is a spurt in various crimes, especially rape, against women and children in Meghalaya.
The rape of the 14-year-old girl that surfaced after she lodged complaint with the police following her sexual abuse at Marvelene’s Inn, Rilbong, run by the family of Home Minister HDR Lyngdoh, resulted in the arrest of as many as 18 persons, including Mawhati MLA Julius Dorphang.
Besides, rape and murder of women continue unabated in the state.
While the Governor had touched all other aspects elaborately, there was not a single reference in the speech to prevent various crimes against women and also to address the plight of women and children who are victims of violence.
