SCL: United XI emerge Super Division champions
SHILLONG: United XI claimed the Shillong Cricket League Super Division title by defeating TNT Sputnik by two runs in a match which was decided by Super Over on Friday. Electing to bat first, TNT Sputnik were allout for 200 runs in 39.4 overs. Rajesh Tati scored 50 runs off 41 balls and Amiangshu Sen scored 44 runs off 56 balls. For United XI, Eugene Kharsyntew and Jason Lamare took three and two wickets respectively. In reply, United XI leveled the score in 40 overs losing nine wickets in Which Gideon Kharkongar scored 50 runs off 85 balls and Bablu Passah scored 52 runs off 65 balls. For Sputnik, Aditya Sinhgania picked up four wickets and Swarajeet Das bagged one wicket. The match was thus decided by Super Over in which United defeated Sputnik by two runs.
Bopanna-Matkowski reach finals in Dubai
DUBAI: India’s Rohan Bopanna and his Polish partner Marcin Matkowski reached the men’s doubles finals of the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships after beating Leander Paes and Guillermo Garcia-Lopez in three sets here on Friday. The unseeded Indo-Polish pair knocked out the Indo-Spanish combination 6-3 3-6 10-6 in the semi-finals of the USD 2,617,160 hard court tournament. In the final, Bopanna and Matkowski will clash with the winner of the second semifinal between top seeded duo of Henri Kontinen and John Peers, and fourth seeds Rojer Jean-J 2-6 defeat.
French football legend Raymond Kopa dies aged 85
PARIS: French football legend Raymond Kopa, who won the European Cup three times with Real Madrid in the 1950s, died on Friday aged 85 after a long illness, his family said. The French Football League announced that a minute’s silence would be observed before all weekend games in honour of the man who rose from a poor mining family in northern France to become one of Europe’s greatest players.
