SHILLONG: UDP president Donkupar Roy on Friday asserted that the party would not topple the present KHADC regime led by P.N Syiem.
Speaking to The Shillong Times, Roy said personally he felt that stability should be maintained.
The sub-committee of the UDP headed by Bindo Lanong is pursuing various corruption cases, especially financial irregularities, in the KHADC.
However, Roy said though there are some problems, adequate time should be given to Syiem as KHADC needs more time to streamline the administration.
Roy admitted that in a democratic set up, criticism about the manner of functioning of the leaders is bound to happen, but it has to be sorted out.
“In this context, the PDF leader or others should not think that UDP is trying to dislodge them from power,” Roy said.
He added that the party wants the present Executive Committee under the leadership of Syiem to complete the full term.
The former chief minister, however, asserted that Councils should not be a breeding place for corruption.
“The first layer of monitoring the anomalies in KHADC is the formation of House Committee which I endorse, and the second layer is the stand taken by the panel under Bindo Lanong to meet the Governor on the issue, but  UDP is not going to topple the CEM”, Roy added.
