SHILLONG: The Deputy Commissioner and Chairman of the District Management Authority in East Khasi Hills has asked all line departments to remain alert because of strong winds.
DC P.S Dkhar on Saturday said an advisory has been issued to departments like Fire and Emergency Service, MeECL, Forest and Police departments to immediately respond to emergency cases.
Besides, magistrates have also been asked to inspect localities like Pynthorumkhrah and adjoining areas where people keep haystack.
Owners of haystacks have also been asked to be cautious.
The DC has also issued an advisory to general public asking them to be careful during strong winds and to get electricity wiring checked.
It also advised households to remove dead branches or dying trees close to houses and ensure safe-keeping of objects like lumber piles, loose tin sheets and bricks, garbage cans and signboards.
Fire, tree felling and short-circuits are common in Shillong and different parts of the Sate during the season when strong winds blow over Meghalaya.
There are several complaints about commercial vehicles carrying sand and other building materials without cover and sand particles.
Dkhar said he would have a discussion with the district police so that traffic police personnel can tell drivers of such vehicles to properly cover the sand and other items so that they do not fly into the eyes of commuters.
