SHILLONG: The Tetelia-Byrnihat railway project is stuck as a local legislator has not yet handed over the land to the Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR), said an official of the railways.
Meghalaya Governor Banwarilal Purohit had informed the state Assembly that work on the Tetelia-Byrnihat railway line is in progress and is likely to be commissioned by March next year.
The project, besides being opposed by pressure groups, was facing several land hurdles. Last year, NFR had expressed doubt about the timely completion of the project. Work is, however, on in places where it has got land.
The State’s only railway station at Mendipathar was inaugurated on November 30, 2014.
