No arrest made so far
Nongpoh: A group of unknown miscreants on Sunday evening around 6 pm attacked the weigh bridge office (Integrated Check Gate) located at 13th Mile Byrnihat in Ri Bhoi District damaging government properties which includes the temporary office of the Directorate of Mineral Resources (DMR) and Sales Tax.
The miscreants also pelted stones damaging window panes of the offices in which computers, documents and other government properties inside the office were badly damaged, the miscreants further set the JCB machine parked on the roadside of NH-6 on fire.
The incident occurred after one truck who escaped from the Weighbridge overturned near the weigh bridge after hitting the barricade erected in the entry gate. Speaking to media person, the Deputy Commissioner of Ri Bhoi C.P. Gotmare informed that after conducting spot inspection on Sunday, he has instructed the department concerned to lodge an FIR against the miscreants involved in the attacked.
“So far no arrest have been made in this incident as the police are in a tough position to identify the attackers as they are mostly from Assam” Gotmare said, adding that he has instructed the police officials to investigate through the CCTV footage so that the miscreants involved can be arrested at the earliest.
The DC also said that this is a pre-plan attack against the government officials who were employed and posted in the integrated check gate.
“The criminals involved will be booked under relevant sections of law which includes an attempt to murder, criminal conspiracy, and obstruction of government officials from performing their duty and violation of Section 144 CrPC which is already promulgated.” Gotmare said.
He further said that the District Administration along with the Police Department will work hand-in-hand to ensure that the criminals involved will be arrested and that stringent actions will be taken against them.
In this connection, the Ri Bhoi Police chief, GD Kharwanlang on meeting newsmen informed that the Police have taken swift action in this regards to identify the attackers while expressing hope that with the help of CCTV footage, an arrest can be made soon.
When contacted the District Transport Officer of Ri Bhoi, W. Makdoh informed that the department is yet to ascertained the total damages in the attack, while adding that an assessment work is still going on to get the total damages involved in the attacked.
