Rs 1 lakh property lost in Umsning fire

Nongpoh: Fire broke out at Umsning Market in the evening of March 1 around 4 pm, however, due the quick respond of the Umiam Fire Service and some locals, not much damage occurred.
Members of the Dorbar Shnong of Umsning Proper A & B, rushed to the site of the incident. Speaking to this scribe, the Dorbar Shnong informed that the exact cause of the fire is unknown, adding that the damaged due to this fire was above Rs 1 lakh.
Umsning Proper B headman, Rocky A Marwein said, “Thankfully no casualty was reported due to this incident since it was not a market day, had it happen on a busy market day, the extent of the damage could have been worse.”
Meanwhile, the headmen of Umsning Proper A & B urged the District Administration, local representatives and the State Government to immediately set-up a Sub-Fire Service office at Umsning to help in preventing any future case of fire.
