Ronnie warns action against littering
SHILLONG: Urban Affairs Minister Ronnie V Lyngdoh said that the Government will take action against those who litter the city and its outskirts.
In reply to a question by Jemino Mawthoh (UDP) during the question hour in the Assembly on Wednesday, Lyngdoh informed that two violators were served with notices on Tuesday for burning waste in the open.
Moreover, recently as many as 20 violators were “caught for littering”, the Minister said.
He also said that as many as 827 public awareness programmes were held since 2012 to bring about awareness on safe disposal and segregation of waste.
“As many as 31,674 households received two colour coded bins for segregation and disposal of waste to prevent dumping in open spaces,” he added.
People welcome Aadhaar enrolment: HDR
SHILLONG: GAD Minister HDR Lyngdoh said that the public has started accepting National Population Register (NPR) linked Aadhaar in the State.
In reply to a question by Ardent Basaiawmoit (HSPDP), Lyngdoh said that people have started accepting the initiative.
Raising a supplementary question, K P Pangniang (HSPDP) said that the people in West Khasi Hills were still averse to the programme and hence, he wanted the Government to create more awareness.
Earlier, the Minister said that the 10 per cent of the State’s population has been covered under the NPR biometric enrolment.
He said that enrollment will resume as soon as the new agency is appointed.
Toll only for completed portion
PWD (Roads) Minister MM Danggo said that toll is being collected only for the completed stretch of 56.56 km out of 61.80 km of the four-lane road except for Umsning Bypass (5.24 km).
Road project pending for 15 yrs
Meanwhile, Opposition leader Donkupar Roy expressed concern over the delay in the construction of a road in East Khasi Hills.
During the question hour in Assembly on Wednesday, Roy said that the Byrong road project has been pending since 15 years. In his reply, the PWD Minister said that it was due to the revised estimate that the project could not be completed in time.
Housing scheme
Housing Minister Zenith Sangma said that the proposed new housing scheme will have two components.
Replying to a question by Witting Mawsor (HSPDP), Sangma said that under the housing scheme, dwelling units will be constructed for the lower income groups.
For the second category, CGI sheets will be provided for the roof of the houses already built by the economically weaker section.
