SHILLONG: UDP legislator Paul Lyngdoh on Wednesday raised the incident of recovery of a woman’s body on Tuesday and sought a suo motu statement from Home Minister HDR Lyngdoh in the Assembly.
The body of the woman – who was from Bishop Falls, Mawprem – was recovered from near Itshyrwat junction on the way to NEIGRIHMS. The woman is suspected to have been raped and killed. Lyngdoh said the killing of the woman in daylight “is a heinous crime” and he needed a response from the government.
“The crime took place on the eve of International Women’s Day at a time when the issue of crime against women and minors were discussed in the House on Tuesday,” Lyngdoh pointed out.
The Speaker asked the Home minister whether he was ready to give a statement on the incident.
In response, the Home minister said a statement in this regard will be given on Thursday.
