SHILLONG: Sports and Youth Affairs Minister Zenith Sangma on Thursday tabled the Meghalaya Draft Sports Policy in the Assembly.
Sangma said the policy was tabled to elicit views from the members of the House within one month.
The features of the draft policy include creation of sports schools in districts, providing lifetime achievement award worth Rs 5 crore to one sportsperson every year for performance in Olympics, lifetime achievement award worth Rs 1 crore to one coach in a year for excellent performance of his athlete at Olympics, cash prize of Rs 30 lakh in a year to the coach under whose coaching an athlete has produced exceptional performances at the Asian Games, Commonwealth Games or World Championships.
The draft policy also suggests Sports Cess aimed at generating funds for financial support to sportspersons and also for creation, maintenance and management of sports infrastructure.
