SHILLONG: Controlling the rising drug menace in the city is on the State’s priority list. The chief minister said the government would strengthen the Inspectorate of Drugs and go after the kingpins of the drugs trade.
Stating that the pharmacies have become the source of illegal psychotropic drugs, Sangma called for strengthening the Health Department.
In terms of regulation, Sangma said the Inspectorate of Drugs would be directed to take stock record of drugs in pharmacies every month and ensure that psychotropic drugs are not sold without prescriptions.
He added that the government would not allow Shillong to become a safe haven for drug dealers.
