SHILLONG: Winning four seats and opening account in Manipur is a boost for NPP whose next target is Meghalaya.
Manipur now has double the number of MLAs the party has in Meghalaya.
After the 2013 Assembly polls in Meghalaya, the party secured only two seats represented by James Sangma and Nihim D. Shira in the 60-member House.
James said over phone from Imphal on Saturday that out of the 20 seats the party contested in Manipur, securing four seats is a boost for NPP.
The origin of NPP was from Manipur and former Lok Sabha Speaker late P.A Sangma nurtured it and launched nationally in January 2013.
“NPP had its roots in Manipur and from there my father took over the party and revived it,” James said.
Besides Meghalaya and Manipur, NPP has four MLAs in Rajasthan.
“The election results in Manipur will have positive impact in the Assembly elections in Meghalaya due for 2018,” James said.
NPP legislator Nihim D. Shira said the feel good factor will morally boost the party in the Assembly elections in Meghalaya due in less than a year.
