SHILLONG: The All Meghalaya Dancers’ Association (AMDA) has urged Chief Minister Mukul Sangma to recognise it as a government-sponsored body and provide financial assistance.
In a memorandum to Sangma, the organisation said 24 dancers from the State could not participate in the reality show, Rising Star conducted by Colors TV on February 4, due to fund constraints.
It said the proposed sponsorship of the selected participants who are part of Thy Miracle Choir of Choice’ was cancelled despite approaching the Department of Art and Culture.
“The sponsorship could not be obtained in spite of all efforts made by our association,” the memorandum stated.
“AMDA has been sending participants to national competitions for the last one decade and some have been selected to represent India at the International World Dancing Championship held in the US,” the memorandum said.
It urged the Government to earmark sufficient fund, “well in advance”, to sponsor competitors who are to participate outside the State.
