Diamond jubilee project of Rotary Club
SHILLONG: As part of the diamond jubilee project of Rotary Club, the dialysis unit for the underprivileged was inaugurated by Meghalaya Governor Banwari Lal Purohit at Children’s Hospital, Pohkseh on Wednesday.
People can avail the facilities of the dialysis unit by paying one-fourth of the prevailing charges in private hospitals.
Speaking at the public function at Polo Towers later in the evening, the Governor lauded Rotarians for the various projects taken up by them for serving the poor and the needy.
“Everybody should engage themselves in good work,” he said and urged the Rotarians to lead a simple life and continue to serve the poor and needy to make India one of the top powers of the world.
On the occasion, Rotarian Manas Chaudhuri gave a brief speech and presented the 60-year history of the Rotary Club of Shillong.
Director of community services, Kishan Tibrewalla gave a presentation on some welfare projects of the Rotary Club of Shillong carried out at several schools in rural and urban areas. This includes setting up of libraries, providing clean drinking water, development of playgrounds, facilitating e-learning etc.
Formed in 1957, the Rotary Club of Shillong has extended assistance to Mother Teresa’s Leprosy Home at Nongpoh, assisted Nazareth Hospital in setting up first ICU in Shillong, opened the children’s wards in KJP and Nazareth hospitals, donated endoscopy equipment to Ram Krishna Mission, launched state’s first mortuary service, helped children with congenital heart ailments get free surgical intervention in Delhi etc.
