SHILLONG: Opposition members John Leslee Sangma and Saleng Sangma on Thursday asked the Government not to upgrade the ITI in Tura haphazardly.
The upgradation of the ITI is part of the ADB-funded project, ‘Supporting Human Capital Development in Meghalaya’.
During the question hour, John pointed out that nobody was consulted before the work started on December 26 last year.
“Established in 1962, the ITI is the oldest in Meghalaya but for the upgradation, the plan was initiated shabbily,” he said.
According to John, the Government should protect the sanctity of the old building.
Saleng Sangma pointed out that the officers cannot construct the building according to their convenience.
In reply, Labour Minister Ampareen Lyngdoh said she would personally visit the site for verification.
