Sex workers say Inn manager knew about flesh trade

SHILLONG: With several sex workers revealing that Marvelene’s Inn run by the family of Home Minister HDR Lyngdoh was frequently used for prostitution, the child rights panel has asked DGP S.B Singh to hold the owners of the guest house accountable for the illegal activities.
Referring to a local news channel airing the statements by sex workers, Chairperson of the State Commission for Protection of Child Rights (SCPCR) Meena Kharkongor has written to the DGP for a proper probe.
As many as nine sex workers said they had frequented Marvelene’s Inn for flesh trade.
The sex workers said they had also visited other guest houses and hotels in the city and even mentioned about the manager of Marvelene’s Inn, Edmund Kharir who, according to them, is aware of what was going on in the guest house.
Kharkongor also urged the DGP to cancel licenses of guest houses and hotels if they failed to install CCTV cameras.
