Horticulture training on modern techniques

SHILLONG: The District Horticulture Office recently held a training programme to make farmers aware of modern agriculture techniques.
The training — held in collaboration with Social Eco-Life Development (SELD) Committee, District Lum Lyngkien Sohphie of Presbyterian Church — at Urlong Tea Factory, Mawlyngot, Mawkynrew on March 11 was on ‘Standardisation, Grading, Primary Processing and Packing of Horticulture Crops’.
Officials who spoke at the programme included P.S Kharnaior, East Khasi Hills District Horticulture Officer, who gave a speech on post-harvest management of horticulture crop, M. Dkhar, assistant director of Horticulture (Market) who talked about standardisation and grading of crops, and D.L Nongspung, leader of the society who focused on primary processing and packing.
Chief guest Banteidor Lyngdoh, Mawkynrew MDC, exhorted farmers to preserve and conserve the environment for a sustainable future.
The MDC also distributed fertilisers among the participants.
