Sacred Heart Church at Mawhati consecrated

SHILLONG: Sacred Heart Church at Mawhati, construction of which was initiated in 2001, was consecrated on Sunday by Archbishop Dominic Jala.
As many as 6,000 faithful attended the Mass, concelebrated by nine priests, including the parish priest, Sedish Marak.
The church was completed in January this year.
The church elder of Mawhati, Emmanuel Lyngdoh, led from the front along with the parish priest, and faithful to complete the construction.
The church can accommodate 1,000 faithful and the parish hall below the church can accommodate 1,200 persons.
The cost of the church was borne by the local church of Mawhati with donation from the faithful from Ri Bhoi and Shillong.
The Archbishop in his homily asked the people to reject different idols of the world and to build up strong faith.
“It is in this House of God that the faithful come and draw the water of life,” he added.
