SHILLONG: PWD (Roads) Minister MM Danggo has cautioned drivers against rash driving and asked them to strictly adhere to speed limits.
Replying to a call attention motion moved by Nongstoin MLA D Jyndiang in the Assembly on Monday asking the government to re-align the Shillong-Nongstoin road at Nongspung village where a fatal accident took place last month, Danggo gave a detailed report on the area of the incident.
He informed that the stretch where the accident occurred consists of a “series of bends and the mishap occurred on the first bend”.
Informing that the road has been built in accordance with the existing Indian Roads Congress codes, Danggo said adequate cautionary road signs have been erected before and along the stretch to alert the drivers about the sharpness of the curves.
He added that in order to avoid any untoward incident, rumble strips will be placed in the approach towards the bend to induce the drivers to reduce vehicular speed and additional road signage will be erected.
