SHILLONG: The KHNAM Youth Wing has expressed concern over the rise in the number of beggars in the city and urged the government to take steps to eradicate the problem.
The KHNAM added that the rise in the number of beggars could also pose a major security threat to the State.
“This also contributes to increase in influx of illegal migrants in the State,” it said and added that the government and the district administration should take stringent steps to tackle the issue
“It is our moral responsibility to stop this menace before it grows, and the best way (to stop it) is to stop giving alms,” the KHANM release said even as it highlighted the issue of begging by children in various parts of the city.
